December 16th I attended the 6A region battle with the Gilbert Tigers traveling about 20 mins to take on the home Higley Knights.
The 1st quarter started and it was all the home team's favor. Their freshmen duo scored 8 points each with Isaiah Rider IV and Marquice Pless to give the Knights a 27-22 lead.
The second quarter belonged to the home team again behind their senior duo of Noah Gloor and Andre Tyler. They each scored 7 points and gave the Knights a 54-43 lead heading into the 3rd quarter.
The second half started and Kyle Speed Jr and Cruz Kazmierski got hot from deep along with senior Malachi Jones. They stormed back and cut it to only a 3 point game with Higley clinging onto a 65-62 lead heading into the 4th quarter.
The final quarter was a back and forth contest and Kazmierski hit a huge 3 with 10 seconds left to give the Tigers a 85-84 lead. The Knights called timeout and made a great play to give them a wide open jumper for Tyler but he fell short and Gilbert upsets Higley on the road in a shocker 85-84.
