Kyler Frye's Buzzer Beater Puts Away Fairfax

On Monday night i attended a region match up between McClintock (2-4) vs Betty Fairfax (4-5). Both teams are looking to start racking up wins and make a push for the playoffs. This game was filled with excitement all night as both teams were trading buckets and going on big runs vs each other. Both teams would faced adversity as Fairfax wing and leading scorer Nickolas Williams (23.6ppg) would miss big chunks of the game due to foul trouble. McClintock be without stud transfer Aidan Whitaker due to transfer rules and leading scorer Josh Mcmanaway (17.2ppg) playing limited minutes. Both teams competed extremely hard and fought to the very end.
1st Quarter - Slow start
The first started out a bit slow for both teams. Fairfax's Nickolas Williams picked up two fouls in the first 2 minutes and was immediately subbed out. They would struggle to score without him and only put up 9 points in the first. McClintock would struggle from deep and only hit 1 three. Points came from multiple players and were mostly at the rim. Josh Mcmanaway would come in for a couple minutes and give McClintock a quick 5 points and give them a first quarter lead.
McClintock - 14 Fairfax - 9
2nd Quarter - Fairfax finds their rhythm
Fairfax would come out with energy in the 2nd sparked by Will Cason with a 5 quick points and a couple assist. Then Nickolas Williams would check back in and score his first 5 points along with Andrew Evens adding in 4 points. McClintock would start to struggle especially from the three. Senior guard Kyler Frye would keep it close putting in 5 points on the quarter and giving him 9 total points. Both teams would trade buckets all the way to the end of the half.
McClintock - 28 Fairfax - 29
3rd Quarter - McClintock builds a lead
McClintock would come out starting to play their game lead by Kyler Frye who was constantly attacking down hill putting pressure on the rim. Their defense would start to pick up as well and eventually hold Fairfax to only 8 points on the quarter. Kyler Frye and Iyzaya Soto would get multiple steals and blocks leading to McClintocks successful quarter. Fairfax would struggle again with out Nickolas Williams due to foul trouble. They were missing shots at the rim and started to make small mistakes leading to turnovers.

4th Quarter - Buzzer Beater
This quarter would start with Fairfax punching McClintock in the mouth and coming out with a fire lit under them. They would play their game of fast paced basketball and would go on a 12-5 run over the first 3:58 of the fourth lead by Will Cason throwing 3 back to back to back dimes to Landry Calhoun for easy buckets at the rim. Fairfax would take the lead 53-52 with 2:55 left on the game clock. McClintock would then take the lead right back with Kyler Frye's tough take to the bucket finishing through contact and getting the and-1. He would then miss the free throw but Darion Wesley would get the offensive rebound and get a easy layup giving McClintock a 56-53 lead with 1:13 left on the game clock. Will Cason would then rush down the court and set up Andrew Evens for a easy bucket at the rim and cut the lead to 1 making the score 56-55 with 1:02 left. McClintock would then come down and put the ball in the hands of Kyler Frye. He would hold the ball as long as he could and would then attack when the shot clock got lower. Frye would attack right and pull up for a midrange jumper that would come of the rim right in to Fairfax hands. Fairfax would then push the ball up the court and lose the ball. Kha'leal Brown would end up with the loose ball and take off towards the rim. He would then be fouled and sent to the line with 32 seconds left up by 1. Kha'leel would then miss both free throws and Nickolas Williams of Fairfax's would secure the rebound. Williams would then bring the ball down with 24 seconds left down by 1. Williams would then setup an iso but before he could attack Fairfax would call a timeout with 7.4 left in the game. Ball would be inbounded to Will Cason who would then immediately attack the rim and missing a contested layup but was rebounded by Landry Calhoun and put back in with 3.3 seconds left giving Fairfax the lead 56-57. McClintock then calls a timeout to draw up the last and final play. McClintock would then inbound the ball to Kyler Frye who would circle thru for the ball and go straight to the rim hitting the go ahead layup at the buzzer winning it for McClintock.
