On Saturday morning in Gilbert, former Higley high school head basketball coach Kenneth Drake was arrested by the Gilbert Police Department for unlawfully distributing nude images over text. A violation of Arizona Revised Statute 13-1425.
Drake spent the last seven seasons as head coach of the Knights before resigning on March 18th to “pursue new professional opportunities”
On March 30th, Drake was announced on social media by members of the media as the recommendation for hire to the Mesa Public Schools governing board to take over as head coach of the Westwood high school program.
However, Westwood rescinded their offer to Kenneth Drake just two days later on Wednesday, April 1.
Below is a statement from Mesa Public Schools Athletic Director Tommy Eubanks
Westwood rescinded their offer to Kenneth Drake on Wednesday, April 1. Mr. Drake was never Governing Board approved and did not have any interaction with Westwood students or the team before or after the rescinded offer.
Per sources, the alleged incident that ultimately led to the arrest from Gilbert PD did not take place while Drake was attempting to pursue another job but rather during the season as Higley’s head coach.
