On Friday, November 21st, the Mingus Marauders made the trip from Cottonwood to Phoenix and left no doubt in their 2025–2026 season opener, dominating the Greenway Demons 67–26 in a battle of 4A squads. Coming off a semifinal run last season, Mingus looked like a team on a mission, while Greenway, who reached the play-in round last year, had no answers for the Marauders’ defensive pressure.
From the opening tip, Mingus applied full-court pressure to speed up Greenway, and the Demons struggled from the onset. Turnover after turnover turned into transition points, and the deficit hit double digits by the end of the first quarter. Things only got worse in the second when Greenway standout senior forward Ramsie Hohl was hit with her fourth foul in the first half, forcing her to the bench and eliminating their interior stabilizer. Mingus took full advantage, stretching the lead past 20 going into halftime and ballooning it to 30 by the start of the fourth. There was a running clock in the final quarter, speeding up the end of the game. Junior wing Savannah Tobias led them with 26 points, six rebounds, and nine steals. Point guard Brianka Villalobos contributed 8 points, four rebounds, and five steals. Sophomore forward Kenna Cook and junior guard Peyton Valles added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
